    It's going to be stock 18" Durbans for the time being though I'll have to get better off road tires as the standard fit are going to get me stuck as soon as i look at a muddy field!

    Planning on getting 18" with some nice rims. Will not be doing so much off roading but need to have tires big enought to park on sidewalks ....just kidding! Woman with an Amarok, when there is no parking spots in the city then need to improvise.

    Hi there Corfu, i don't quite understand your question, do you wish to know what the largest tyres you can fit on the 18" rims are?

    If so you will find it is 265/65/R18, any larger and you will affect the travel on the suspension, those tyres have a diameter of 31.5" or 800mm.
    I wouldn't want to go any larger than that.

    The tyre width will also impact on what depth of tyre you can fit.

    Here's a quick calculator to help...

    Hope this helps

    Hi,
    thanks for the info - I am thinking of changing from the factory fitted 18 inch rims to something smaller and more readily available in Southern Africa - even finding suitable aftermarket rims is proving very difficult . Thanks for the calculator link , this is most useful and I am passing on to our 4x4 community link.
    Cheers

    Don't think they will, you need to be careful and make sure the offsets and centre spindle dianeter are the same.
    I'll have a look about i'm sure i've seen someone else try this......when i find it i'll post it up here...

    Something to bear in mind, apparently..... that any rims other then VW rim will need to change to tapered studs/bolts because VW use a ball stud setup. I'm sure some people wont be aware. One more thing, make sure your new studs screw far enough into the hub- at least 8 full turns.

    BMW have a wider offset than VW wheels
    The BMW center bore is 72.6mm vs VW 65.1mm. So you will need hubcentric rings

    Like this.... spigot rings - 72.6 mm -> 65.1 mm - HubCentric-Rings.com

    You will also need some new wheel bolts to suit the BMW wheels, as they have a tapered seat, opposed to VW ball seat. BMW X5's have the same size lugs as the amarok (14x1.5mm with a 19mm face) these are also high tensile, with a washer so they really hold on well.
    And they can handle 180nm (as a lot of aftermarket ones won't)
